In 1996, Mr. B. Sanyasi Rao, a trained special educator from the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), founded the Chaitanya Institute in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. What began as a modest effort in a rent-free building with 15 students has grown into a trusted nonprofit serving 65 children (45 residents and 20 day boarders) with intellectual disabilities and hearing impairments.
